naturally i will reply to your request, alex.
i think that relationships in the workplace are unnecessary. i feel this way for several reasons. (though my gut instinct tells me to end this post here.)
obviously, if one tends to date a person from the office, no outside life is expected. naturally, (at least in my american-propigated opinion) i feel that people are lazy and meeting a person at the office with the (probable) intent (there's that word again) of forming a relationship of a personal nature is a bit base.
i am not essentially concerned with the power struggles one hypothesizes when thinking of office dates...
what i am concerned with is the fact that the initial interaction began at your job.
i tend to be reluctant in seeing ANY possibly, long-term situation occuring. what i do hypothesize is the constant referrals of work, time, deadlines, etc.
i have a strange psychological explination for this...however, i think i shall put it off for another thread later in time. (should it arise)
meeting a person at your job is mere convenience... while humdrumming to the work routine, the human mind tends to wander--after all, we are animals, NOT machines--and naturally those wanderings tend to be of a fantasy/hedonistic nature. its a mind/work pacifier.
now i am sure none of this is prevalent--or, surfacing as a face-value when one questions their 'desire' to meet someone on the jobsite. but i tend to believe that it lay underneath that crap.
the unfortunate thing is, we are conditioned to work our asses off... the funny thing is, we aren't really working our asses off. i mean, c'mon! we are all not out there sweating/freezing building things with our bare hands just to survive.
most jobs these days are superficial in value. cell phone companies, 'internet relations advisors'...shit like that.
when you compare the real jobs --construction, machinery repair, ditch digging...
these jobs are not limited to gender by any means. but usually these are the jobs associated with levelized co-worker relationships and cat calling to passers-by. go figure.
these people work. they don't hafta put the shine on. however, i would argue that if members of these jobs wanted to get together for dating relationships, they would be more authentic in nature...
as opposed to the pretty boy support tech or the fashion queen receptionist. (and you all KNOW i am referring to certain pop culture fields.
(come to think of it, the more i look, the less and less granny type-dentist secretaries there are...hmmmm.)
ok. that's a good rough draft.
feel free to comment or pose a query.
i feel like being martyred tonight.
